Training for defence lawyers in litigation skills. Session 1.

In project Raising Professional Skills of Defence Lawyers in Business Crime Cases

Session 1 of the training in litigation skills took place in the premises of Citizens' Watch from 17 to 22 September 2013.

The project was funded by the Bilateral Projects Programme, FCO, Great Britain.

The programme of the training included the following topics:

- An overview of the problems defence lawyers encounter working with business crime cases in Russia.

- An overview of typical economic crimes in England and Wales. The lawyer-client relations in criminal cases. The roles of solicitors and barristers.

- Professional problems of defending clients in criminal cases. An outline of professional skills.

- Case analysis. Preparing a defence position.

- Opening statement.

- Examination in chief and cross examination.

- Interviewing and advising a client.

- Closing speech.

- Networking and marketing.
