Training for defence lawyers in litigation skills. Session 2.

In project Raising Professional Skills of Defence Lawyers in Business Crime Cases

Session 2 of the training in litigation skills took place in the premises of Citizens' Watch from 11 to 13 November 2013. 

Trainers: Arkady Gutnikov,  St.Petersburg Institute of Law named after Prince P.G.Oldenburgsky; Yuri Khapaliuk, Institute for legal Research, Advocacy and Mediation at St. Petersburg Lawyers Chambers; Sergei Krauze, International Bar “St Petersburg”; Robert Brown, Corker Binning; Thomas Price QC, 25 Bedford Row Barristers Chambers.

The programme of Session 2 included the following topics:

- Precedents in the legal system of England and Wales.

- European standards and the ECtHR case-law in the practice of defence lawyers.

- Expert evidence.

- Examination of an expert in court.

- Professional ethics.

- The structure of a law firm in England. Education and a typical career.


The session ended with presentation of certificates to the trainees who had completed the two-phase course from September to November 2013.
