The Citizens’ Watch participates in the UPR

The deadline to receive communications from non-commercial organisations from UPR participating countries ended today, 5 April, and the Citizens’ Watch sent its individual and joint communications.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a UN Human Rights Council mechanism which regularly reviews, every four years, the fulfilment of human rights obligations by 193 UN Member States. During the review, each state may declare actions taken to improve the human rights situation and other states make recommendations. Civil society can also contribute to the review.
Citizens’ Watch reports on conditions in places of detention, compensatory remedies for inadequate conditions of detention, guarantees of the right to a fair trial, the right of access to archives and the rights of persons with disabilities in Russia.

The UPR session on Russia will take place in November 2023.

We publish our individual communication (in English).
